English 4U?... I guess...

As a student who has already been through the process of applying for university, I noticed that almost all universities require a grade 12 university-level English course to be completed when applying. For that reason, students are being forced (me) to take this prerequisite as annoying and tedious it may be.
In the past, my strong dislike for this course has blinded me from seeing the benefits of this requirement. While weighing the pros and cons, I realized that it is reasonable and essential for universities to demand this prerequisite, even if it is far off from the programs I wish to apply to.
Firstly, communication of any sort is vital in all university programs. Many skills taught in this course are important to succeed in the university such as essay-writing, critical thinking, note-taking, how to properly structure and write documents, the ability to make connections, and creating effective arguments.

Thinking about it, many skills I use in my other classes I have learned from English class, so how different would it be in university. looking at it in another perspective, the lab writing skills I learned in science class will only benefit me when taking science; however, the skills learned in English class might benefit me for a lifetime.

Overall, I see why this is a requirement and that it is actually more beneficial than not. From now on, I will try to look at this in a more positive light.

Hey Howrra! I really appreciate your real opinion and can totally relate. I do not enjoy English classes either but when I thought about it, English is a course that will help in every aspect of my life whether at home, on social media, at work or school. I also need to work on looking at English class in a different perspective and appreciate the positive affect it is having on my life.

I agree I have noticed that English class has taught me many skills that I use on a daily bases like, note writing, and essay writing. In the past I was also not too interested in English, thinking I knew English properly, but as the English class years go on I learn new things every class.
